French is the foreign language studied at Ormiston State School from Prep through to Year 6. Emphasis in the early grades is on oral/aural communication as students become familiar with the language through conversation, story, song, mime and games.
In the higher year levels, reading and writing skills are gradually developed. Lessons at all levels are highly interactive and performance is encouraged, instilling confidence in the students as they build their skills in and knowledge of French culture and language. We also celebrate French events across the year and look for opportunities to apply and extend the learning of French into the regular classroom environment.
