Our vision

At Ormiston State School, we believe that learning and wellbeing go hand in hand. When children feel safe, respected and valued, they are more likely to engage deeply in their learning and grow into capable, confident citizens.

We know every learner is unique. That’s why we design inclusive, real-world, and purposeful learning experiences that respond to individual strengths, interests and needs. These are not add-ons, they are core to our curriculum and teaching practice.

Our approach is underpinned by the shared values of our school community and supported by current educational research. We work together to create a positive, proactive and inclusive learning environment where wellbeing, high expectations and meaningful relationships sit at the centre of everything we do.

Our values – T.O.P.S.

At Ormiston, we live our values every day:

  • T – Teamwork: Working together to support each other

  • O – Ownership: Taking responsibility for our actions and learning

  • P – Participation: Engaging fully in school life

  • S – Sensitivity: Showing empathy, kindness and respect

These values guide all aspects of school life, from decision-making and curriculum planning to playground interactions and community events.

How we bring our vision to life

Quality Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (Pedagogy) and Inclusive practices

We deliver a strong, consistent curriculum aligned with the Australian Curriculum, using evidence-based teaching practices that keep learners at the centre. Our approach is informed by:

  • Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

  • Inclusive Education frameworks

  • A whole school approach to pedagogy that is: flexible, responsive and ongoing process that supports our staff to employ the most effective ways to teach to maximise the achievement, engagement and wellbeing of all students in all subject areas.

Every student at Ormiston has the opportunity to explore their interests through specialist and co-curricular programs including:

  • French, Science, Music, Physical Education, instrumental Music

  • Choir, Sport Aerobics, Sporting Schools, STEAM, and Wakakirri

Our wellbeing and support programs are integrated into all classrooms and are further supported by our Guidance Officers, Literacy & Numeracy specialist, Speech Language Pathologist and School Chaplain.

Student Learning and Success

We create learning experiences that are:

  • Engaging and motivating

  • Linked to real-world contexts

  • Tailored to student needs, goals and interests

We believe all students can learn and achieve success. Our role is to ensure they have the right support, tools and opportunities to do so, both in the classroom and beyond.

Staff Capability and Culture

Our staff are experienced, committed, and constantly improving. They model the TOPS values in all they do and actively participate in student life outside the classroom.

We invest in ongoing professional learning so our team can continue to deliver high-quality teaching and foster a strong, connected school culture.

Community and Partnerships

Ormiston State School is proud of its strong reputation in the community. We work closely with families and community partners to support student learning, wellbeing and success.

We aim to develop students who are not only capable learners, but active and caring members of their community - ready to contribute with purpose and confidence.

Ormiston is a great school and we welcome you to our community.
