Ormiston is located approximately 25km east-south-east of Brisbane. Ormiston is a leafy suburb with a pleasant unhurried lifestyle. Ormiston has a small population of urban koalas and other wildlife. Traditionally a farming community, Ormiston is now a very popular residential area.

Our school has a strong connection with the community. Members of the community are active within our school through the operation of the Parents and Citizens Association (P&C), tuckshop, volunteers in classroom or during working bees. Ormiston State School believes that strong partnerships with the school community enhances the opportunities for our students.

Chaplaincy

Ormiston State School's Chaplaincy Service aims to help provide social, emotional and pastoral support to the school community.  Chaplaincy are in the prevention and support business: helping students find a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness, to friendships and mental health. Chaplaincy also provide support for staff and parents in school communities.

The Chaplaincy Service is integrated with the Guidance Officer and Student Needs Committee to provide a coordinated approach to meeting the social, emotional, learning and wellbeing needs of the school community.

The Chaplain operates under the National School Wellbeing Program, which is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, the P&C and community donations.

Our Chaplain is at school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and accessing the Chaplaincy Service is voluntary.  Parental consent for the chaplaincy program is obtained upon enrolment, or upon request. Additional information about the school's chaplaincy service may be obtained from the office.

Volunteering

Volunteers are always welcome as it helps foster a partnership between school, home and the community. Volunteers at schools need to hold a Blue Card prior to commencing work, however, if the volunteer is a parent of a child at the school, a Blue Card is not needed. All volunteers need to complete the required volunteer form prior to commence their work. Contact the school office for further information.
