Ormiston State School offers a diverse range of sporting opportunities to its students.

Sports Carnivals

Students at Ormiston SS are given the opportunity to participate in many sporting events throughout the year, some of which include Swimming, Cross-Country and Track & Field Carnivals. Students in Years 3 to 6 are able to participate in before, during and after school training programs that are aimed at enhancing their skill development, health and overall fitness in preparation for these carnivals. Trainings are held at various times throughout the year, students are encouraged to collect permission notes (at the beginning of each term) for more information regarding these sessions.

Cluster Sport

Students in Years 5 & 6 are given the opportunity to compete against neighbouring schools in our cluster sports program. We learn and compete in a variety of sports, including but not limited to, touch football, soccer, tennis, AFL, volleyball and netball. There are four cluster sport days held across terms 2 and 3, with students training in the final session every Friday afternoon in preparation. On top of this, students can be involved with our single day carnivals that include basketball, Touch football, Volleyball, swimming and tennis. These programs are through selection and are available to 10 – 12 year old students.

Touch Football Program

The Ormiston SS touch football program provides students with the opportunity to expand on their knowledge and skills of the game while also having a pathway to competitive competitions both locally and state-wide. Selected students from Years 4 – 6 will train throughout the year, preparing for these competitions.

Bayside Sport

Across the year, 10 – 12-year-old students may have the opportunity to trial for various Bayside sporting teams. These teams are representative teams selected from all students across our district. Therefore, limited positions for trial are available. To ensure the highest level of player attends the trial, Bayside District Sport has outlined the below requirements for schools;
-    Has prior experience at playing the sport at a representative level – either through school (must be in the “A” team or equivalent) and/or through club (must be Division 1 or equivalent)
-    Has demonstrated a high level of performance of a wide range of skills specific to the sport
-    Has good knowledge of the rules of the sport and playing positions where applicable
-    If bottom age i.e. 10/11yr old attending a 10-12yrs Trial, or 13/14yr old attending a 13-15yr Trial; is of suitable physical size, fitness level and advanced ski l level to compete against older students without causing safety concerns
-    If bottom age in a popular sport, ensure student is of a very high skill level as a top age student will be selected over them if they are at the same level of skill
-    Has a high level of attendance at school
-    Has a good behaviour record at school
-    Is the correct age to be trialling

For all sports, schools may only send a specified number of players to trial. In the event there is more than the allocated amount, an in-school trial will be held to determine those suitable players. The above criteria will be followed for all school selections.
