Mr FanningWelcome to our school – a school that is renowned for many things. Some of these are the academic achievements of its students; the wide range of co-curricular opportunities offered; its caring and dedicated staff members; its safe and supportive learning environment; its friendly and hard working parent body; and its spacious and shady school grounds.

Set on 5 hectares of former market garden land, a special feature of our school is its four separate adventure playgrounds and many large shade trees.

Ormiston State School has long been held in high regard by the members of Brisbane’s Bayside community. As the school was first opened on 13 April 1872, it is one of the oldest primary schools in Queensland.

Over the past 132 years, Ormiston State School has grown from being a small country school serving the rural Ormiston district to the present day where it serves the bustling suburb of Ormiston with its recently developed housing estates and huge growth. Our school has grown sufficiently to allow it to offer all of the services and facilities needed to cater for the individual needs of all of its students, yet at the same time it has remained small enough to maintain the warm, caring learning environment for which it has become so well known.

Today our school caters for students from PREP Year to Year 7. This year we have 26 students in the initial half-cohort  of PREP, and a further 444 students in Years 1-7.

Our highly skilled and dedicated teaching staff deliver quality education programs centred around the key learning areas of Literacy, Numeracy, Technology, Science, Studies of Society and Environment, and the Arts.

As well, programs in Music, Physical Education, Library, LOTE (French), and Instrumental Music are delivered by specialist staff. Support staff also provide services in the areas of learning support, guidance, speech therapy and communication, and English as a Second Language.

Our school website serves two very important purposes.

Firstly, it allows us to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our students and staff and share these with our parent body and the wider community. Our students achieve wonderful results in the fields of academic, sporting and cultural endeavour and we are very proud of this fact.

Secondly, but just as importantly, our website demonstrates the ongoing commitment that we at Ormiston have to involve our parents and community in being an integral part of the partnership that is required if the learning outcomes of the students are to be enhanced to their full potential. We believe that the more knowledge people have of educational issues and schooling in general, the better able they are to support their children in the educative process.
