Much of the software we use at Ormiston is free for educational or personal use. This is fantastic news because it means that you can simply download this software from the internet and install it at no cost.

Below we have listed the free software which we use at school, and also other software titles which may be useful at home. We will continue to add to this list so keep checking back.

Students please ask for parents permission before installing these programs.

Open Office
Website: www.openoffice.org
Description: Open Office is a free substitute for Microsoft Office. The layout of Open Office and Microsoft Office is very similar, the main difference is that Open Office is created by a different company.


XnView
Website: www.xnview.com
Description: XnView is a small application which can manipulate images. The software includes built in transitions and filters to manipulate regular images or photos.
Open Clipart
Website: www.openclipart.org
Description: Open Clipart is a comprehensive database of clipart.
Google Earth
Website: http://earth.google.com
Description: Google Earth allows you to view a satellite image of the Earth. You can view any location on earth and zoom right in for a close view.
Art Rage
Website: www.artrage.com
Description: You can paint with oils, sketch with pencils, sprinkle glitter, and more. You can paint with gold leaf, silver foil, and other metallic colors. You can even load in your photos as Tracing Images to help you recreate them as paintings.

Audacity

Description: Audacity is a free audio editing program. This software lets you also record audio and save as an mp3 file.
NVU Web Design

Description: NVU is a free web editor which is very similar to Frontpage and Dreamweaver.
Paint .NET
Website: http://www.getpaint.net
Description:
Paint.NET is free image editing and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools.
